Rodeo Ready

 Feb 9, 2009

Hello and welcome.  I was recently a part of Cowgirl U, a program run by the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, TX which took part during the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.  Bradley Harter (a fellow PRCA saddle bronc rider) and myself made an appearance and talked with Cowgirl U participants in the afternoon of  January 30.  It was a pleasure to be part of the event and I enjoyed meeting and talking with the participants.  Feb 3rd and 4th I competed in the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, two broncs on the Tuesday, and one the afternoon of the Wednesday.  I managed to ride my first bronc called Jam Bone of Andrews Rodeo quite well considering I haven’t been in the saddle since I broke my collarbone in October!  Although I made a qualified ride, I didn’t receive a score for my efforts as one judge felt I missed the bronc out of the chute (you have to have both feet over the point of the horse’s shoulders when he clears the chute gate).  My second horse, a bronc called Rain Dance of Mo Betta’s, didn’t have a trip quite as good as the first and I received a score of 68 points, not even close to being in the money!  The 3rd horse was the toughest one and unfortunately I bucked off of him, a horse called Pitsburg Nelly.

For some mental clarity, I rode on Saturday, Feb 7 at the North side Coliseum in Ft. Worth, TX, to get a bronc covered for 70 points.  Although I had to work harder to make the ride look pretty as the bronc had kind of a weak trip, I was second at the show, and was happy to get another bronc rode before my move up to Colorado.  Yes that’s right, I will be moving within the next week up to Hayden, Colorado, which is about 25 minutes west of Steamboat Springs.  As a result, my rodeo schedule will be somewhat delayed, but I hope to be back riding in March sometime.  I have changed my circuit to the Mountain States Circuit which encompasses Colorado and Wyoming, so look to see my schedule of rodeos to be in that area.  If the season picks up for me (I start winning a lot) I will be traveling a lot more outside of those two states, and I will keep you posted on my schedule page.  Well, I got to get back to packing.  Stay healthy, have fun and be safe.
